'Coalition govt. in J-K won't continue for long': Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Monday condemned Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's remark crediting Pakistan for peaceful polls in the state and said that the coalition government would not continue for long as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) have different thinking and policies.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said the Election commission has played a prominent role in free and fair polls in Jammu and Kashmir, and added that it is not correct to give credit to somebody else for it.

"I would like to tell you that their (BJP and PDP) thinking is different and their polices with regard to Jammu and Kashmir are different. So, when their thinking and policies are different, the coalition government there will not continue for long," she added.

Speaking to the media after being sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, Mufti had stoked a controversy with his remark that the Hurriyat, Pakistan and militants had allowed a conducive atmosphere for the assembly polls in the state

"I want to say on record and I have told this to the Prime Minister, that we must credit the Hurriyat, Pakistan and militant outfits for the conduct of assembly elections in the state," said Mufti.

"People from across the border made the atmosphere conducive. They also have assets-Hurriyat, militants... if they had done something (during the election) such a participation of people would not have been possible. This gives us hope," he added.
