While insisting that he is the one to lead the squad to Cricket World Cup glory next year, England cricket team captain Alastair Cook has declared that the team would never have a better chance of success.
Cook leads England on a seven-match ODI tour of Sri Lanka this weekend to kick things off.
The skipper is in desperate need of runs with former players questioning his captaincy, but Cook insists that he remains the man to make the most of what he calls the best opportunity to win a World Cup, The Mirror reported.
Cook said that without a doubt, this is their best chance, adding that this goes back a few years in planning and asking why England's World Cups have not gone as well as they should have.
He said that since 1992 England has not done itself justice in any World Cup, and added that the ECB has planned to make sure that they have the guys fresh and ready to go for the World Cup.
The skipper said that they have a great opportunity and he for one is excited about playing one-day cricket without having Tests in the forefront. He added that a lot of one-day cricket is played on the back of Test series when guys are tired and one cannot do as much work on ones skills.
Cook said that they have these five weeks when they can't use that excuse and they have to play well.
Regarding his own position, Cook believes that the only time England has been number one in one-day cricket was when he was captain.
