A defamation case was slapped against Bangladesh National Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday for her remark that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina son's Sajeeb Wazed Joy has US 300 million dollars in a bank account.

AB Siqqique, the president of Jananetri Parishad, filed the case with the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abullah Al Masud, reports the Daily Star.

The court has heard the complaint and will pass an order on the issue later in the day.

With today's case, she has been sued in two cases filed against the former prime minister on the same issue.

On May 3, a Tk 1 crore defamation case was filed with a Comilla court against her remarks.

Khaleda had at a rally in Dhaka on May 1 alleged that senior journalist Shafik Rehman was arrested for collecting information on Joy's involvement in siphoning off Tk 2,500 crore.

Rehman was arrested on "false charges" of his involvement in a plot to abduct and kill Joy by the government, said Khaleda.

She also said that the government was not implicating Amar Desh [acting] editor Mahmudur Rahman in it.
