The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) have called for a state-wide 'chakka jaam' (road block) in protest against the recent fuel price hike announced by the government.
The protesters opined that the hike in fuel price will lead to inflation and demanded the government to withdraw it.
DYFI state unit president Pankaj Ghosh said, "In 15 days, the price of petrol and diesel has been hiked twice. This will lead to problems, especially, to the poor people. In Tripura, ten Left supporting students and youth organisations have decided to protest against the policies adopted by BJP Government at the Centre. We have no other option other than coming out onto the streets," he said.
He further revealed that student organisations are protesting across the state by blocking roads during traffic hours at 150 spots.
"If the central government does not roll back the hiked price, then we shall continue our protest in coming days," he said.
The Centre has hiked the price of petrol and diesel twice this month.
The petrol price was hiked by Rs 3.13 a litre and diesel by Rs 2.71 per litre last Friday.
