President Pranab Mukherjee addressed participants of the 'School Chale Hum Abhiyan' and stressed on the role that education plays in transforming a society.

Speaking on the occasion on Saturday, the President said,"education is the most efficacious instrument for transforming a society. It broadens perceptions and gives individuals better insights into the diverse aspects of their life. Education not only brings about personal evolution and growth but also brings progress and positive development of the people."

The President added, "the Right to Education, enacted in Parliament on August 4, 2009 and brought into force on April 2, 2010 was a historic step in this direction. It made education a fundamental right of every child between the age of 6 and 14 years. Having enacted such a Constitutional provision, we would fail in our duty if we did not do our utmost to implement it in letter and spirit."

The President further said, "we must reap the dividends of India's youthful demographic structure. History will not forgive us if we neglect this precious asset. We should aim to achieve better quality, research and innovation in our educational institutions. Along with all of this, we will need to continuously remind our younger generations of their unique heritage in the form of the Indian value systems which, combined with the knowledge imparted through formal education will give them the priceless gift of wisdom."

A Rashtrapati Bhavan release quoted the president, as saying that education can be used to pursue the goal of inclusive growth of our society, paying special attention to those that are marginalized due to socio-economic or cultural reasons. The President extended his best wishes for the success of the 'School Chale Hum Abhiyan'.
