Former South African Test all-rounder Pat Symcox has said that he does not regard the current Pakistani Test side as a 'great' one despite Pakistan beating South Africa in the first Test of the series at UAE.

According to Sport24, Symcox believes that compared to the Pakistani teams of the past, the current crop of players, led by captain Misbah-ul Haq, is inconsistent and is in disarray.

Symcox further said that with the exception of spinner Saeed Ajmal, whom he described as a 'special player', there is no one else in the current side who really strikes fear into the heart of their opponents like Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram did during his playing days.

Symcox further said that the current condition of the Pakistani side makes their win over the world's top Test team 'shocking' and South Africa's defeat 'disappointing', although he backed his former team to win the next Test by regaining their confidence and rotating their strike.

According to Symcox, there are enough top quality players in South Africa's batting line-up to trouble any side in world cricket, although he added that they failed to capitalise in the first Test match against Pakistan.
