Veteran actress Saira Bano on Sunday expressed her happiness over the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour, being conferred to her husband, the Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar.
He was conferred the honour at his residence by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state governor Vidyasagar Rao.
"I am extremely happy and delighted; I can't express my feelings because today Home Minister Rajnath Singh came here. The Government of India has conferred such a great honour to Dilip Sahab, I am very extremely delighted and grateful," Bano told ANI.
"Dilip Sahab has won millions of hearts across the world but this honour which has been conferred to him, nothing can be better than that," she added.
Bano further expressed her gratitude to the ministers and the governor for taking the time out to personally come to her home and honour her husband.
The 93-year-old legend was presented with the Padma Vibhushan a medal, a certificate and a shawl by the Home Minister, in the presence of the actor's wife Saira Bano.
Dilip Kumar or Yusuf Khan, the tragedy king of Bollywood, and often described as "the ultimate method actor" by Satyajit Ray, has created an edifice for the modern day Bollywood cinema.
The legendary actor is the first recipient of the Filmfare Award for the best actor in the year 1954.
'Devdas', 'Madhumati', 'Daag', 'Ram aur Shyam', 'Mughl-e-Azam' are some of the few trendsetter films the legendary actor has done.
