FIFA tweet counter reaches 300m mark

World cup fever takes over the globe as football fans go fanatical over social networking sites.

300 Million tweets have been received so far from all over the globe, the opening clash between Brazil and Croatia alone drove 12.2 million tweets, which easily minutes the 150 million tweets seen during the 16 days of the 2012 Olympics, the Daily Star reported.

By the end of the group stages the top 5 discussed teams were Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Croatia and USA respectively with Messi being the most mentioned player followed by Brazilian striker Neymar Jr.
