Australia Twenty20 cricket team captain Aaron Finch has said that more care is 'must' to be shown towards players after he was nearly burnt by artificial flame-throwers in the series-opening loss to South Africa.
Finch was shocked when a burst of coloured flames were deployed just as he went to pick up ball from over the Adelaide Oval boundary line.
He deliberately stalled collecting the ball, knowing the flames were shot to herald boundaries in Australia's seven-wicket loss to South Africa on Wednesday night, but when the flames initially weren't fired, he went to pick up the ball, Stuff.co.nz reported.
The skipper said that he sort of stood off, waiting for the flames to go off. He added that when they didn't he thought they must have pulled the pin on the flames for that time and then bang.
He said that it was a shock, adding that he is sure it could be quite dangerous.
Finch also said that his former Australian T20 teammate David Hussey also suffered a similar scare at Adelaide Oval. He said that he thinks it might have been last year or the year before when Hussey almost got his head blown off.
The skipper said that probably a bit more care has to be taken towards the players and anyone who is nearby.
The incident came as South Africa effortlessly chased Australia's 144-6, winning with seven wickets and an over to spare, the report added.
