The Congress on Friday took a jibe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and actor Paresh Rawal's "buffoonery" dig at its party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha took it to his Twitter page to say "I have been a great admirer of Paresh Rawal Ji's comic timing; buffoonery also requires consistency. Not an easy act."

Earlier today, Rawal had sarcastically remarked that Gandhi was politicizing the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as FTII chairman, adding that the students must be seeing "an actor" in the Congress vice-president.

"I have not listened to Rahul Gandhi's questions. He has got a topic. We should at least allow him to be happy and celebrate. We will answer him later," said Rawal.

"I just want to ask the students at FTII that if they are seeing a political worker in Gajendra Chauhan, then are they seeing an actor in Rahul Gandhi?" he asked.

Gandhi earlier justified his "anti-national" remark for the government, saying that they are least interested in having discussions with the FTII students.

"I said so because they (government) don't want to have a discussion. Whatever opinion they don't like, they call it anti-national. These kids here are making films. What can be more pro-national than this? How can you call this anti-national? How can you call these youngsters anti-national? Is studying anti-national? Is learning how to make films anti-national?" he asked.

The students have been on a strike for the last 50 days demanding that the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of FTII must be cancelled.
