Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday accused the NDA regime of using ex-Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman Pradip Baijal to defame former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
"This particular officer is being used by the NDA Government just to defame the Congress Party, to defame the Congress leadership and to defame the former Prime Minister of India," said Azad.
He added that Dr. Singh would be the "last person" to encourage any officer to indulge in any wrongdoing.
Baijal has alleged in his book that Singh had warned him of "harm" if he refused to cooperate in the investigations into the 2G scam.
He also alleged in the book that the CBI 'harasses' civil servants and political opponents, adding that the agency, in its investigations into the 2G scam, had forced him to implicate industrialist Ratan Tata and former cabinet minister Arun Shourie if he wanted to 'save' himself.
