Google has received FCC approval for a gesture-sensing radar technology that it had been long working upon.
Called Project Soli, the technology uses a combination of radar and sensors to create gestures controllers for everyday objects. For instance, instead of using taps for controlling a smartwatch, you can simply rub or tap your fingers together, Mashable reported.
Google first demoed the technology in 2015, followed by prototypes through its secretive Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) lab in 2016.
It isn't clear if the FCC approval would translate into any commercial product anytime soon. However, it is a positive sign, given the possibilities of the technology that can be embedded into smaller objects to create motion controllers.
