The government is assessing the evolving situation in Yemen and considering its options on how to assist the Indian nationals living in the Arab country.
As per sources, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has had a detailed telephonic conversation with Indian envoy in Sanaa, Ambassador Amrit Lugun, to monitor the situation. Sources further said Secretary (East) Anil Wadhwa has convened an inter-ministerial meeting of representatives of the Defence and Home Ministries to discuss the present situation in Yemen.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the Ministry of Shipping are examining their options to provide assistance to the Indian nationals in Yemen, with the Navy, Air Force and Air India also consulted for the same.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has established a 24 hour control room in New Delhi to monitor the situation and provide information about the security situation in the Arab country.
The MEA had earlier advised Indian nationals living in Yemen to leave the strife-torn country in view of the fragile security situation and high possibility of major conflicts and disturbances.
