Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday countered Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's assertion that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) only make false promises and asked the latter to introspect the ten-year-rule of the former UPA regime which in nexus with the 'inflation mafia' harmed the interest of the common man.
"If he goes through the past ten years' history of his government, he will know that how shamelessly the interest of the general public was harmed in nexus with the inflation mafia," said Naqvi.
Meanwhile, Naqvi expressed hope that the crucial Goods and Services Tax Bill (GST) Bill would be passed in the current parliamentary session as almost every political party has agreed on it.
"The Finance Minister had a meeting with representatives of the states and he took their suggestions and accordingly the bill was amended," he said while referring to the amendment in the GST Bill.
The Union Cabinet yesterday approved amendment in GST and dropped one percent additional tax on inter-state sales.
As per reports, the Cabinet also agreed to include the mechanism of compensating states for all losses of revenue for the next five years after the rollout of the new indirect tax regime.
