The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has condemned the attack on a 70-year-old man accused of blasphemy by the prison guard at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

The man was shot at and injured by the guard in the prison, reported the Dawn.

The HRPC issued a statement on Friday that stated that the commission was shocked how the prison guard Mohammad Yousaf easily walked inside the man's cell and attacked him.

HRCP also said that meaningful steps must be taken to prevent such situations and not merely suspend the official.

HRCP urges for a thorough inquiry into the matter and what should be done in the future.
