Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared a vision of the future that he envisages, where, every Indian can openly and truthfully speak of improvement in his or her life.

"It is said that Melbourne is the best city in the world to live in. Sydney might not agree. India can learn from the Australian experience and benefit from your expertise. I want to build a future where every Indian can say 'yes, my life has improved and my environment has become better'," Prime Minister Modi said to great applause from the assembled at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Prime Minister Modi also spoke of India being able to learn many values from India.

"We can learn from the many famous sporting feats Australia has had, and also [achievements] in other areas and we have decided to collaborate on a sports university in India," he said.

"I am confident that we will achieve it with the support of the people of India and through the talent and energy of 800 million youth below the age of 35. A successful India will be a vast opportunity and a force of good for the world. We look forward to closer partnership with friends like Australia," he added.

Prime Minister Modi further spoke of the great relationship that India and Australia share, adding that during his time in that nation, New Delhi and Canberra have grown much closer.

"Prime Minister Abbott and I have spent a good part of this week together. I have also met the political leadership, business leaders and the vibrant Indian community. We have achieved a lot in the last few days, and there is one thing that we all agree on - the bonds between the countries are made strong by the joining of hands of our people," he said.

"So our exchange in sports, education, tourism and culture are great source of strength for our relationship. I feel great confidence in the future of our relationship. My memorable visit to Australia ends tonight but a new journey of our relationship has begun," he added.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi visited a war memorial and addressed the Australian Parliament in Canberra before departing for Melbourne, where he attended a meeting with business leaders.

Later in the day, he is scheduled to attend a community event here.

After concluding his visit of Australia, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Fiji as the third leg of his three-nation, 10-day trip.
