If true, exit-polls indicate anti-incumbency was strong: NCP

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar on Thursday said if the exit poll predictions indeed turn out to be correct then it shows that anti-incumbency in Maharashtra was strong although not very visible.

"If exit polls are to be believed then it will be a challenge for the opposition and needs to be looked in to in order to make it strong. In a democracy it is important that there should be an opposition in a democracy. It shows that anti-incumbency was strong but wasn't very visible," Anwar told ANI here.

He also dismissed any suggestion of the NCP allying with the BJP.

"We have been telling it from the very first day that there is no question of the NCP allying with the BJP," said Anwar.

Various exit polls have predicted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the single largest party in both Maharashtra and Haryana.

Haryana recorded a voter turnout of 76 per cent yesterday while in Maharashtra it was around 64 percent.
