Ignoring Netaji's messages will be a huge mistake: Amartya Sen

Rejecting the notion that there was mystery behind Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's death, noted economist and Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen on Saturday said it would be more appropriate to not ignore his message of unity, secularism and democracy.

"There is hardly any mystery about it. Is there some mystery, we will like to know? It won't have any profound influence on Netaji's mission. To concentrate on the peculiar circumstances of his death, ignoring his message of unity, secularism and democracy will be a huge mistake. So, concentrate on the right thing, rather than get excited on the wrong thing," said Sen.

His statement came in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiling the digital version of at least 100 declassified files relating to the freedom fighter, which is expected to end the mystery shrouding Netaji's death.

"I don't know any more than you do. I am not very curious what will be found out and what had happened. It will have very little profound impact on his standing - he stood for the independence of India, he stood for the unity for India, he stood for equity and justice of India; he stood for secularism and totally rejected communal politics. None of these is going to be killed by any finding that is going to be emerged," he added.
