President Pranab Mukherjee said on Thursday that the country's economic policies in the recent years, have laid emphasis on empowering each national.
Inaugurating the 33rd India International Trade Fair (IITF) here, Mukherjee said the country no longer believes in the dripping theory of distributing resources from the people who occupy a higher place in the social strata to the ones lying at the bottom.
"Our country, we are no longer believing in the theory of dripping out from top to the bottom. But we believe that empowerment of the people is the most crucial instrument in the economic development and this empowerment must be followed by entitlement and entitlement backed by legal enactment. This strategy is being followed, outcome of which are known to all of you MNREGA, RTE, food security, information security all these have enacted in the last couple of years," he said.
Mukherjee also said that the country needs to constantly fine-tune the skills of its workforce to promote economic growth.
The India Trade Promotion Organisation's (ITPO) annual trade fair kicked off on Wednesday with over 6,000 exhibitors showcasing their products.
Participants from almost 32 countries would put up their pavilions at the fair.
