India helps Nepal clear blocked runway after Turkish Airlines accident

India has extended its help to Nepal in clearing the runway at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu after the recent landing accident suffered by a Turkish Airlines.

According a release by the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Air Force (IAF), the ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) coordinated to airlift an Accident Recovery Kit to Kathmandu to remove the plane blocking the runway.

According to the release, the technical crew of Air India arrived from Mumbai by flight while the loading was underway. The customs and immigration formalities of these personnel was organised by the Air Force authorities at Palam.

On Wednesday, the Turkish Airlines plane had a narrow escape, when the aircraft skidded off the runway while landing at the Tribuvan International Airport. Local media reported that all 227 passengers and 11 crew members onboard Flight TK726 were safe.
