India needs 'special change': RSS on PM candidate

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which has conveyed its opinion about the prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Tuesday said there was an urge for distinct change in the political scenario and everybody knew what 'special change' was needed.

RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav, who was talking to media here, did not directly take any names but hinted towards Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

"Everybody knows what will bring about a major change and everyone is also aware as to which person has the people's respect and support. We have kept that in mind and conveyed it to the Bharatiya Janata Party," said Madhav.

Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat evaded questions regarding Modi's selection as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

"The spokesperson of RSS has said what was to be said today in Delhi. I don't need to say anything. It is the organisation's decision and I will adhere to what they say.

It is their job to speak, it is not mine," said Bhagwat.

The decision on Modi remained pending as the two-day crucial meet of BJP-RSS concluded in New Delhi yesterday.

The RSS-BJP held two-day meeting in the national capital where leaders said that a plethora of issues were discussed apart from a debate over the Prime Ministerial candidate.

The BJP is likely to announce Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate by next week possibly.

According to reports, BJP President Rajnath Singh, who held back the announcement in the hope of achieving unanimity on Modi, has decided to go ahead despite continuing reservations from some senior leaders like L. K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj.

Modi, who is considered by many to be the BJP's face for the next general elections, had earlier on September 5 said that his main priority is to serve the people of Gujarat till 2017.

The BJP's Bihar unit had earlier on August 17 passed a unanimous resolution urging the party's parliamentary board to announce Modi as its PM candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP has, however, not officially endorsed his candidature yet.
