Officials of the governments of Nepal and India are reportedly meeting here to discuss ways to make the Pancheswar Development Authority functional.
According to the Kantipur Online web site, the meeting commenced on Tuesday and is scheduled to end today. It added that the focus of the meeting will be on issues regarding recruitment of senior officers and other staff for the authority, besides other matters.
The Nepal team is being led by Energy Secretary Rajendra Kishore Kshatri, while the Indian delegation is headed by Water Resource Secretary Alok Rawat.
The two countries had endorsed the statute of Pancheswar Development Authority in Kathmandu this September. The project, situated in the Mahakali River on the Nepal-India border, is expected to generate 6,720 megawatt of energy and irrigate 93,000 hectares of land in Nepal and 1.6 million hectares in India.
The authority will comprise seven members each from Nepal and India and will be co-chaired by the Energy Secretary of Nepal and Water Resource Secretary of India.
The CEO will head the executive committee.
