India is planning to buy several regiment sets of Russia's advanced S-400 air defence systems from Russia and talks on the exact volume of supplies and other details in regards are being discussed by both the countries.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said that Moscow and New Delhi were in talks on the exact volume of supplies and other details in regards to the deliveries of S-400 systems to India.
"The issue is not about divisions, the issue is about regiments. The regiments include divisions, the number of regiments defines the number of divisions," Sputnik news agency quoted Rogozin as saying in response to a question about New Delhi's plans to purchase several S-400 division sets..
He was speaking to media on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The regiment set of S-400 air defence system consists of two brigades that include up to 12 launchers.
The S-400 uses four missiles to fill its performance envelope: the very-long-range 40N6 (400 km), the long-range 48N6 (250 km), the medium-range 9M96E2 (120 km) and the short-range 9M96E (40 km). The S-400 has been described reportedly as "one of the best air-defence systems currently made.
