President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday said the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh have grown and expanded in recent years, and added that there is now need to work on increasing connectivity.

President Mukherjee welcomed Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, who called on him at Rashtrapati Bhavan here, and said the Joint Consultative Commission was a good mechanism. He said there is need for speedy implementation of decisions.

"Bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh have grown and expanded in recent years. The two countries have made concrete progress in almost all areas. There is now need to work on increasing connectivity," he said while speaking on the occasion.

The Bangladesh Foreign Minister said that his nation is moving forward on all fronts and the Sheikh Hasina-led government stands poised to lead the country into the modern age.

"The sky is the limit for cooperation with India and both sides together need to jointly give a big push. The large delegation accompanying him shows the commitment of the Bangladesh Government to improving relations," he said.

The Bangladesh Foreign Minister was accompanied by eight secretaries to the Government of Bangladesh who are in Delhi to attend the third meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission.
