The Supreme Court (SC) has granted an extension to the Mudgal Committee, allowing it to submit its report in the IPL spot fixing case by November 10. The committee had plead that due to the ongoing tour of England by the Indian cricket team, the statement of many cricketers was still pending.

At the same time, the court has not allowed N Srinivasan to resume his post as president of the BCCI. Srinivasan will also not be allowed to participate in the elections at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI, where he was hoping to fight for the presidency.

The petitioner in the case, Aditya Verma, who represents the Cricket Association of Bihar, said, "The Mudgal Commission submitted its report to the Supreme Court on Friday and the case was to be heard today. Lawyer for Srinivasan, Kapil Sibal, vociferously asserted that since his client had not been mentioned anywhere in the report, he should be allowed to function in his post as the President of the BCCI.

However, the court turned him down, saying how could you know about the report if it is not there in the public domain?"

Verma further said, "The BCCI has tried very hard to allow Srinivasan to contest for presidency in the next general body meeting, but the court has turned them down."

Verma also confirmed the extension given to the Mudgal Committee, saying, "The SC has further granted the Mudgal Committee a further two months to submit its report, giving the reason for the extension that the Indian cricket team is currently in England and many players are yet to give their statements. The next date has been fixed for November 10."

On March 25, the court had told Srinivasan to step down from his position as BCCI president in order to ensure a fair investigation into the betting and spot-fixing charges levied against his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, the Team Principal of Chennai Super Kings.
