Tariq Ahmad Salfi, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, has started the valley's first online radio station which is steadily gaining popularity in the region.
The Mass Communication graduate initially started the internet radio station as a pilot project under the name City FM JK aimed at the local population.
However, days after it was launched, his Bangalore based technical team informed him that the radio Channel is steeply gaining listenership from foreign countries including USA, UK and Russia.
After learning this fact, Tariq decided to make further investments in the radio channel.
"This was more encouraging. I have sold my personal car to pump money in this project. I am putting all my resources and emotions behind this idea" said Tariq, who had attempted many unsuccessful business ventures before this.
Despite poor internet connectivity in the valley, the radio station recorded a listenership of 30,000 on day one.
"Increasing internet penetration aided with smart phone revolution has made every person accessible and reachable, thus an idea of net based radio naturally evolved in my mind," said Tariq.
He further said that apart from entertainment his aim is to keep the people of the valley informed.
"Our objective is not only to entertain people, but also to inform them about Kashmir. It is very beneficial for Kashmir. It is the first such concept in Kashmir. We believe that we have been successful in launching this," said Tariq.
The app for the radio channel City FM JK can be downloaded from the Google play store.
