Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh on Sunday strongly condemned the thrashing of a woman by a policeman in Jalgaon, demanding that swift action be taken in the incident.
The woman in question was reportedly accused of another woman's purse, before the policeman beat her up.
"The tyranny of the police is well known across the nation. Even if the woman was stealing, no one has given the right to the police to beat her up. If she has done something wrong then take her to the police station. Beating her up publically is wrong. The government must take action on the policeman and suspend him from duty," Singh told ANI.
As per reports, the incident had taken place last month, but came to light when a video depicting the same went viral.
