A meeting of Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) and Congress leaders has decided to hold the joint meeting of their workers across the parliamentary constituency from April 1.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting here on Wednesday, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Paarmeshwar and state Cabinet Minister SR Srinivas, said Ramesh Babu, a JDS leader.

Babu said: "We have decided to conduct the meeting of Congress and JDS workers in eight assembly segments from April 1. Our candidate HD Deve Gowda and other leaders will address the public meetings on April 4 and 5."

He also said that a joint coordination committee has been formed to take care of the elections. The committee includes Deputy Chief Minister Parameshwara, Cabinet Minister Srinivas, former minister D Nagarajaiah, former MLAs Shafi Ahamed and Shadakshari.

The relations between Congress and JDS soured further after HD Deve Gowda and Congress sitting MP SP Muddahanumegowda filed their nomination papers from Tumkur parliamentary constituency on March 25.

Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka will be held in two phases, starting from April 18. The voting in Karnataka will take place for 28 Lok Sabha seats. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.
