Johnson admits he's nearing retirement

Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson has admitted that his retirement is nearing but insisted that he is enjoying his cricket at the moment.

"I think about it most days I think," Johnson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. "It's probably getting to that time, but to be honest I'm just trying to go out there and play each game and enjoy it. Like I've said before, it could be after this game I might just go, I'm done but I'm still enjoying my cricket at the moment and I'm enjoying the challenges," he said ahead of the second Test against New Zealand in Perth.

The 34-year-old left hander had earlier said that he considered calling it quits after four of his closest teammates Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Chris Rogers and Brad Haddin retired from the Test arena following the team's failure to retain the Ashes series against England.

"It's a really good time for Australian cricket with these young guys in the team and I want to be a part of that. As long as I'm performing well and doing my job in the team then mentally I'm feeling pretty good," Johnson added.

Following a thumping 208-run win in the first Test at the Gabba, the Steve Smith-led team will look to seal the three-match series in the second match starting on Friday.
