Saina battles past Sun Yu to reach second round of China Open

World number two shuttler Saina Nehwal battled past Chinese opponent Sun Yu to reach the second round of the China Open Super Series on Wednesday.

The top seed and the defending champion overcame 22-20, 21-18 win over Yu in an opening round contest that lasted 49 minutes.

Meanwhile, ace shuttler Ajay Jayaram, who retained his Dutch Open title last month, failed to cross the opening hurdle as he went down 21-12, 21-11 to world number one Chen Long.
