Joseph Gordon Levitt joins Channing Tatum in 'Comrade Detective'

Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon Levitt have finally found a project to work together.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gordon-Levitt has boarded Tatum's Romanian cop-show spoof 'Comrade Detective,' which has landed at Amazon for an Aug. 4 premiere.

The actors will provide the English voiceover for the central characters of 'Comrade Detective,' an Amazon Studios and A24 comedy shot in Romania.

The show is set in the thick of 1980's Cold War hysteria.

The story focusses on Detectives Gregor Anghel and Iosef Baciu (played on-screen by Florin Piersic Jr. and Corneliu Ulici, respectively) as they investigate the murder of fellow officer Nikita Ionesco and simultaneously uncover a plot to destroy their country by capitalism.

The Romanian Government created the country's most popular and longest-running series, Comrade Detective, a sleek and gritty police show that not only entertained its citizens, but also promoted Communist ideals and inspired a deep nationalism.

According to the series description, the show "was sadly forgotten about after the fall of the Berlin Wall," but has now been rediscovered and remastered with the help of Tatum and Gordon-Levitt. Comrade Detective is further described as "a true portal into a time and place and a powerful reminder of what art can be - and it is now ready to be seen by the modern world on a larger scale than ever before."

Other members of the show's voice cast include Jenny Slate (Gifted), Chloe Sevigny (Bloodline), Jake Johnson (New Girl), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Fred Armisen (Documentary Now!), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Bobby Cannavale (Master of None), Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed), Katie Aselton Duplass (Legion), Jerrod Carmichael (The Carmichael Show), Bo Burham (The Big Sick), John Early (Search Party), Tracey Letts (The Lovers), Debra Winger (The Lovers), Jason Mantzoukas (The League), and Richard Jenkins (The Visitor).

The show is A24's third TV series, joining 'Playing House' and 'The Carmichael Show.
