Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday refused being placed under "Z" Category security by the Ghaziabad Police, and said that the job of these security agencies is to protect the common man.
He also added that security for ministers and chief ministers is not that important.
"There is no threat to my life, and I do not need any security. I want to live like a common man. The job of these security agencies is to protect the aam aadmi (common man). The security for ministers and chief ministers is not that important," he told media here today.
"This country is capable to producing thousands of chief ministers. The amount of security given to VIPs, I feel that should be given to the common public," he added.
Kejriwal has been placed under "Z" Category security by Ghaziabad Police inspite of his consistent rejection of the same.
Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police of Ghaziabad Dharmendra Singh said that Kejriwal would have 30 police personnel deployed round-the-clock during his movement in the district. Kejriwal and his family presently stay in the Girnar Apartment complex in the Kaushambi area of Ghaziabad.
Apart from the security detail, two escort vehicles will follow and guard Kejriwal in Ghaziabad. These vehicles would carry two head constables and six constables armed with sophisticated weapons.
Dharmendra Singh said that he was following the Uttar Pradesh Government's orders issued on Saturday.
