Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday said that he would rather want his team to win the match than him getting century as a batsman following India's 63-run defeat over Sri Lanka in the first test of the three-match series in Galle.
"I would rather have the team perform well and win the game rather get frustrated that as a batsman I am getting runs but not getting the results. So, the main thing is you work towards the result the team wants and in that process if you get runs it's obviously good feeling but I would like it to be in a winning course," the 26-year-old told media.
"I have always tried to capitalize every situation for the team and make it stronger. And as a batsman I always aimed to do that. It's me getting four centuries in the four games is irrelevant to me becoming captain.," he added.
Kohli also backed all-rounder Stuart Binny, saying he has become more confident as a batsman and might give good balance to the squad in future.
"As a batsman he has become more confident, as a bowler he will improve with more games that he plays... I see him giving great balance to the team in future," Kohli said.
