A joint operation by the state police and army on Thursday shot down two militants belonging to the banned organisation Karbi People's Liberation Tigers (KPLT) in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.
According to reports, the two militants were gunned down after exchanging fire with the security forces. The army has recovered arms from the slain militants.
In another incident, security forces apprehended two militants of National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit faction (NDFB-S) from the Barpeta Road and Sonitpur districts of the state.
Last month, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take up the investigation of four cases registered by Assam police relating to the attacks by the NDFB-S on innocent civilians.
The outfit is blamed for killing over 70 people in the two districts of Sonitpur and Kokrajhar in Assam on December 23.
