Lisa Bloom, a well-regarded civil rights attorney with a history of defending women, has finally released a statement explaining her decision to back Weinstein.

While giving an interview to The Hollywood Reporter, Bloom explained how her intentions were misconstrued.

She said, "I saw this as a unique opportunity to change the way these stories go. In the case of Donald Trump, in the case of Bill O'Reilly, in the case of Bill Cosby, it's always the same playbook. When the story comes out, attack the accuser, deny, deny, deny, and fight like hell."

Bloom has a long history of defending women. She took on Blac Chyna's revenge porn case against reality star Robert Kardashian as well representing the women behind the recent allegations against Usher.

The attorney also noted that she was really surprised by the backlash she has been getting after taking the case.

"I am very surprised. This has been a powerful learning experience for me. I have heard the anger with me. I have given it deep thought. I believe in listening to people when they tell me they're upset with me. People who love me, who care about me, who feel disappointed with me, I have to listen to them and I am listening to them," shared Bloom.

Bloom added that "no one is ready to hear an apology when a shocking story comes out".

She shared, "It turns out nobody is ready to hear an apology when a shocking story comes out. I cannot, because of attorney-client privilege, get into why I withdrew, but I think I can talk about what I was trying to do. My part in this was getting that response."

After all this, she did apologise for defending Weinstein. She claimed she was "genuinely moved" to discover that so many see her as a champion of women's rights, and that she was "sorry that they felt hurt.
