New Delhi, Oct. 30 (ANI): The movie, which is set in the 1970s and 80s, is based on the story of one of the most famous conman Charles Sobhraj played by Randeep Hooda. The movie is a small story recited by Amod Kant (a real life Delhi top cop) played by Adil Hussain.
The movie begins in the 1970s with a bikini clad woman found dead on a beach in Thailand. This is when you realise that Charles Sobhraj, who is an Indo-French conman, is close by. He has a unique technique of killing women and especially tourists and backpackers. There is no logic for his actions. His modus operandi is a simple one. To charm women, enjoy with them and kill them by drugging them, then flee with their passports. The women don't even realise that they are falling prey to him.
To escape death penalty in Thailand for numerous murders, he flees to India. This is the portion of the movie where the story swings between three places-Delhi, Mumbai and Goa. The then hippie culture of Goa proves to be the ideal environment for Charles to carry out his activities.
Even as the cops of the three regions scrambling to mark their jurisdiction, Charles manages to dupe them and stages his own arrest and a prison escape. All this is a part of his master plan. In his prison escape, a criminal law student Mira Sharma played by Richa Chadha falls in love with him and aids in the escape. He also befriends some of the inmates. By the end of the movie, he becomes a celebrity for the media. Currently, the real Charles Sobhraj is in a Kathmandu jail.
Performance wise, Randeep is very convincing and uncannily resembles the real Charles in looks and accent. Richa fits in well but the best performance of the movie is definitely Adil Hussain who portrayed the real life Delhi top cop Amod Kanth.
The movie is well directed with some good dialogues. Screenplay, story and the music is good. All in all, it's a watchable movie.
