Suspected militants on Tuesday fired at the police deployed for the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while he was proceeding for flag hoisting of his election campaign in Tamenglong district of Manipur.

Police said that after the attack, Gaikhangam's cavalcade was stranded for several minutes.

With elaborate security arrangements in place, the Deputy Chief Minister addressed an election meeting at Khoupum within his constituency.
