Two policemen were killed on Saturday by militants in Srinagar's Hari Singh High Street area, three days ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Using silencer-fitted pistols, the militants carried out near simultaneous attacks at Jehangir Chowk and Sarai Bala, injuring head constable Mohammed Maqbool and constable Nazir Ahmed.
While Mabool died on his way to hospital, Nazir Ahmed succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
The Prime Minister is to visit the Valley on June 25 and 26. He will inaugurating the train service between Banihal and Qazigund and a power project in Uri.
