More anarchy than development in last five years: Mayawati

A while after the Samajwadi Party released its election manifesto for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati hit out at the same and said there have been more anarchy and crime than development under the first family of Uttar Pradesh.

Mayawati said, "The fact is not hidden from anybody that in the last five years of the Samajwadi Party Government, there have been more anarchy and criminal activities than development. They have again tried to tempt the people with various announcements, but this time the people will not believe them. They have seen what has happened in the last five years."

Mayawati also pointed towards the comments made by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on women safety.

"Along with development, people want their life, honour and culture to be protected too. They want safety for their women. But the Samajwadi Party chief's policy and intention regarding the women and their safety have always been under question," she added.

The BSP supremo further said that the development of any state depends upon its law and order which cannot be improved by increasing the number of police men.

"They should take strict action against the hooligans, gangsters and corrupt and communal elements. But they cannot do that too. Because their party is full of such elements and any action against them will harm their party only," she added.

Dubbing the Samajwadi Party's manifesto as an attempt to lure people into voting for them, Mayawati said, "There is nothing special written in the manifesto. They have just blown out of proportion everything they did for the state, which they have been highlighting in the media too. The manifesto is rather disappointing as the people don't expect much from them. They have seen how they made the fake promises in the last manifesto too, but didn't fulfil any."

Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav released their manifesto and said it outlines the plan it has to take forward the developmental work that has been done in the state till date. He also said the Samajwadi Party was confident of winning 300 seats in the assembly polls.

Yadav also took potshots at the BSP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven phases beginning February 11 and results will be announced on March 11.
