Mourinho faces touchline ban after being sent to stands

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is facing disciplinary action from Football Association and a potential touchline ban after being sent to the stands during their 1-1 draw against West Ham in the Premier League.

The incident took place in the 27th minute of the match when the Portuguese manager kicked a water bottle on the touchline, a reaction which came after midfielder Paul Pogba was booked for diving shortly before the half-hour mark.

It was the third time referee Jon Moss had sent him off. The first send-off came a year ago when Mourinho was Chelsea manager - also against West Ham, and in 2014 at Aston Villa when he was fourth official.

Meanwhile, it is the second time this season that Mourinho has been sent off, having earlier been sent to the stands during their goalless draw with Burnley in October.

Reflecting on the incident, Mourinho's assistant Rui Faria said the manager's frustration came in the heat of the moment, while adding that United should have received a free-kick at that time rather than a yellow card.

"I think everyone saw his frustration was shown in a situation that should be a free-kick for us and finishes with a yellow card for Paul and out of the next match," Faria was quoted as saying by the Gaurdian.

"There is a reason to express some frustration. After that, things that are part of the game and the referee took a decision. But it comes everything from that. I think everyone saw. It is part of the game. It was the referee's decision," he insisted.

Mourinho currently faces a sanction that may be stronger than the one-game bans he received for the previous two incidents.
