Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud has been appointed as the new chief of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), following Mullah Fazlullah's death.
On June 13, Fazlullah along with his four lieutenants was killed in a US drone strike in north-eastern Afghanistan.
"Like his predecessors Baitullah Mehsud and Hakimullah Mehsud, Mullah Fazlullah was killed in a US drone strike at 11 pm on the 27th Ramazan," The Express Tribune quoted TTP's central spokesperson Umar Khurasani as saying.
Mufti Noor Wali was selected at a meeting of TTP's Central Shura after the death of Mullah Fazlullah. After Wali's appointment, Taliban factions pledged allegiance to their new chief.
The spokesperson confirmed that Mufit Mazahim, also known as Mufti Hazrat, has been named as the Deputy Ameer of the TTP.
