Former military ruler of Pakistan, General (retired) Pervez Musharraf has said that a "western form of democracy" cannot be implemented in the nation.

While saying that he believed in democracy, Musharraf added that the democracy should be adapted according to the Pakistani environment and circumstances. He said that every nation has its own problems and circumstances and that every country should act accordingly, reported the Dawn.

The former dictator is currently facing charges of treason in court for actions taken during his term in office.
