Former Pakistani bowler Mushtaq Ahmed has said that his aim as Pakistan's new spin bowling coach is to work at the grassroots level to find and develop 'mystery spinners' having a special delivery like a 'doosra' or a leg-spin bowler who has some other kind of variation.
Mushtaq, who was described as being one of the best three wrist-spinners in the world in his peak, has been asked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take the position of spin coach on a two-year contract following his sacking by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) from a similar position with their national team.
According to www.pakpassion.net, expressing his gratitude to the PCB for offering him this position, Ahmed said that his objective would be to work at the grassroots level a the National Cricket Academy (ACA) when the team is not touring, especially with spinners who have played at the Under-19 level.
Stating that he is aiming to create a pool of talented young spinners who are ready to take the places of Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi or Abdur Rehman, Ahmed said that he is also bidding to find and develop 'mystery spinners' like a off-spin bowler who has a special delivery like a doosra or a leg-spin bowler who has some other kind of variation.
Ahmed further said that he plans to find out such bowlers from the grassroots levels and help them develop variations to eventually play first class and international cricket against other 'mystery spinners' who are currently playing for other countries in international cricket.
