Former bureaucrat and Vice Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia University, Najeeb Jung, was sworn in as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on Tuesday.
Chief Justice of Delhi High Court B.D. Ahmed administered the oath of office and secrecy to Jung at Raj Niwas, the official residence of Lieutenant Governor.
The formal ceremony was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, her council of ministers, prominent political leaders and officials of the Delhi administration.
Later interacting with the media, Dikshit said that her government and others are hopeful of a pro-active cooperation and guidance from the new Lieutenant Governor.
"Very welcome personality, very very wise and with many advantages - understands the administration, has been the Vice Chancellor and he run the Jamia University extremely well and he is above all a 'Delhiwala'. So, he will understand and we are hoping for great cooperation and guidance," said Dikshit.
A 1973-batch IAS officer, Jung worked in various capacities in Madhya Pradesh and the central governments.
He has worked in the energy sector, and was associated with the Asian Development Bank and Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Oxford University, before he was called to head the Jamia in New Delhi.
