Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that his nation was disappointed at the cancellation of the Foreign Secretary-level talks with India and called on the international community to resolve the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) here, Sharif said, "We need a new approach to eliminate conflict and we will continue to work for promotion of human rights. We want to build a friendly neighbourhood by pursuing a policy of constructive engagement. We were disappointed by the cancelled talks of Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan. Many generations of Kashmiris have lived in violence and the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir has to be resolved."

"It is not possible to draw a veil over issue of Kashmir. Pakistan is ready to work for resolution of this issue through negotiations. The core issue of Jammu and Kashmir must be resolved and this is also a responsibility of the international community," he added.

Asserting that Pakistan is committed to fight the menace of terrorism, Sharif said, "Terrorism is a global threat and the threat in Iraq of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) is a global threat. We condemn terrorism in all forms. Since the 2001 attack.... we have fought terrorism and we have made enormous sacrifices in blood and resources. To promote stability we need to explore new conflict resolution methods.
