NDFB chief Daimary released from jail

Ranjan Daimary the chairman of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), was released from Guwahati central Jail recently on a six-month interim bail.

Daimary got the bail after the government withdrew its objections to his release to facilitate his participation in the ongoing peace talks.

Around hundred people from the Boro community and woman activists received him as he walked out of the jail.

His homecoming has given hope to the people of Boro community that peace and normalcy will soon return to the state.

Daimary said he welcomed the peace talks.

"I hope that I can be a part of the solution to the problem. I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks and gratitude to those who have worked hard, to those who have made tremendous efforts to ensure the ceasefire and the peace process. I would like to take this glorious opportunity, a wonderful moment, a journey point for my people and society and I hope everyone will cooperate with me," said Daimary.

Daimary is responsible for many acts of violence in Assam.

He is accused as the masterminded of the October 2008 serial blasts at the Guwahati High Court that killed more than 100 people and injured over 800.

His decision to participate in peace talks has created hope among people of Assam that normalcy will soon return to the troubled region.

Abhijit Basumatary, a Guwahati resident, said: "We have come here with a white flag to receive NDFB Chairman Ranjan Daimary because we want peace, and we hope that there will be peaceful discussions with the government and there will soon be peace again in our community."

People in Assam want to live in peace and want militant groups active in the region to start talking to the government.
