The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the disqualification of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's legislative membership to March 19.

The petition has alleged there was a criminal case against Nitish in which he was accused of killing local Congress leader Sitaram Singh and injuring four others before the Lok Sabha by-election from Bihar's Barh constituency in 1991.

Earlier on December 8, 2017, the court adjourned the plea against Nitish alleging that he did not disclose in his election affidavits about a First Information Report (FIR) against him.

In July 2017, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav alleged that Nitish is facing charges of murder in a case registered with the Pandarak police station.

The JD (U) said, "Nitish Kumar is neither chargesheeted nor convicted in any case like Lalu who has been chargesheeted in some fraud case and also convicted in a fodder scam."

An FIR was registered on November 17, 1991, in which five persons including Nitish were made named accused.
