NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden's father Lonnie Snowden has reportedly said that people at the WikiLeaks website have manipulated his son and he did not commit any treason.
According to News 24, Snowden's father in his letter to the US Attorney General Eric Holder has acknowledged that his son has broken the US law but did not commit any treason and has not betrayed the people of US.
He further said that he hasn't spoken to his son since April but believes that his son may voluntarily return to US if the Justice Department promises not to hold him prior to trial and not subject him to a gag order.
Snowden who leaked the classified information about the US led surveillance programme had been in hiding in Hong Kong for a few weeks and has recently flown to Moscow in a bid to claim asylum in Ecuador.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange had publically confirmed of helping and supporting Snowden escape Hong Kong and seek asylum in Ecuador.
Snowden's father in his letter has asked for 'ironclad assurances' that Edward's constitutional rights will be honoured adding that WikiLeaks' focus is not constitution of the US but releasing as much information as possible.
Ecuador is considering Snowden's asylum claim and Venezuela has again extended its offer of giving the US 'fugitive' refuge in their land.
However, his fate is still hanging as Russian authorities are indecisive about his exit from the airport's transit area as US has revoked his passport and any help to Snowden in order to exit the area would mean stronger reactions from US which has already been accusing the countries of helping a 'fugitive' and breaking the 'international law'.
