Obama announces 'core coalition' with NATO allies to tackle IS threat

US President Barrack Obama has announced the formation of a "core coalition" of like-minded countries from the NATO in order to tackle the Islamic State (IS) threat.

Speaking at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) groups summit in Wales, Obama said that a "core coalition" has been formed to tackle the threat (Islamic State) and that the coalition was ready to face the terrorists in Iraq using all means including military, intelligence, law-enforcement as well as diplomatic efforts, the BBC reported.

The countries which would be a part of the group includes the US, Britain, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Turkey, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said.

Both US President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have ruled out using any ground troops in their effort to enlist more nations to join their common fight against the scourge of IS.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister David Cameroon described the threat posed by the IS as one of the multiple crises being discussed in the summit.

This decision comes close on the heels of IS militants beheading two American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff.

The US is hopeful that the allies would develop an elaborate plan to tackle the IS ahead of the this year's United Nations General Assembly session in New York scheduled this month.
