Pakistani civil society organizations have demanded the Sindh government to provide protection to schedule caste Hindus of Badin, who are being harassed by Muslim attackers with political backings.

The civil organizations have demanded the government to allocate a land near the graveyard for burial of Dalit communities and financial support to the family of Bhooro Bheel from Baitul Mal, Benazir Income Support Programme and other social protection schemes of the government, the Daily Times reports.

The fact finding mission was sent to investigate the desecration of the body of a scheduled caste Hindu (Bheel) in Pangrio area of Badin, when they found out that poor Dalit communities lived in tension and fear due to their vulnerable social status and support of influential landlords and politicians.

The mission comprised of Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) Nobahar Wassan, Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum Qurat Mirza, Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) Abdullah Langah, and Hyderabad Press Club President Ishaq Mangrio.

The police also did nothing to prevent the perpetrators, the report added.

The body demanded the government in their report that all the nominated accused should be arrested and be produced before a court and asked for a high level investigation to provide justice to the affected families.
